Apple Pie
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger (or clove)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon butter (optional)
- 1 large egg white
- Pastry for top and bottom 9 inch crust.
- 6 to 7 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples
Directions
- Combine sugar, flour, spices in a bowl and set aside.
- Peel and slice apples, place in large bowl. Toss apples with lemon
juice. Add sugar and spice mixture. Toss to coat.
- Line a 9 inch pie plate with bottom crust. Trim crust even with edge.
Fill with apple mixture. Dot with butter (optional). Cover with top
crust, trim, seal, flute edges. Cut slits in crust.
- Beat egg white until foamy. Brush over crust. Sprinkle with sugar.
Cover edges loosely with foil.
- Bake 375 for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake until crust is golden
brown and filing is bubbling. About 20 to 25 minutes longer baking. Cool
on wire rack.
