Whiskey Creek Fish Hatchery - Fin Clipping - April 2005

These photos were taken April 9th, 2005 at the Whiskey Creek Fish Hatchery near Tillamook. This is the annual fin clipping event. I took my old digital camera along so the photo quality isn't quite as good as I would have liked. Removing the adipose fin identifies fish as hatchery fish as seen here.

A bit before 9 AM the fin clipping crew begins to assemble.

The clipping work is about to begin. Last minute instructions are given and people wait for the fish.

Now the fin clipping is underway.

Master chefs prepared a great lunch. While free food is always great food, I had to wonder why fish wasn't on the menu with 100,00 of them nearby. Perhaps in a few years when they are larger....

The volunteers line up for lunch. That is not fog in the photo, that is smoke from the grill.

The lunch line is shorter now.
