The Cherokee is used for off highway driving in groups so has both amateur radio and CB installed. Like most recent vehicles the dash has lots of plastic covering the dash. I placed the CB radio on the "transmission hump" like so.
The amateur radio is a Kenwood TM-V7 dual band unit. I used the remote mounting kit to allow separating the radio display from the radio. The control head was placed on the ceiling. This is not quite as easy to read as I would like, but works OK and I have most all of the frequencies I normally use programmed in the memory channels. I can step through the memory channels OK when driving but to put in any other frequency requires me to stop and pay attention to the radio (probably always a good idea). Here is the control head mounting.
The radio itself is tucked under the passenger seat. I placed the speaker on the ceiling between driver and passenger.
The antenna is a dual band NMO mount antenna made by Larsen Antennas. This is mounted on the roof and competes or space with the roof rack. I would expect better performance if the roof rack was not there, but in situations like this just think of how much better even a compromise like this works compared to the "rubber duck" antenna of a hand held radio.
The CB antenna was mounted on the front brush guard. While this works well for radio use it is a nuisance when the passenger is taking video while driving. I have lots of video with the white CB antenna bouncing around.
