A NOAA weather radio is a great way to listen to weather forecasts and much more. These radios receive National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather brodcasts and can sound an alarm if an emergency code is transmitted along with the broadcast. Along the coast you will hear weathter forecasts and ocean conditions.
The Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) feature allows radios to sound and alert for emergencies local to an area. This includes providing Tsunami warnings. In order to use this feature it is necesary to program a radio with the code for the area of interest. This web page lists the codes for Oregon. The codes useful in Arch Cape are:

In the Cannon Beach area you can tune your car radio to 1650 AM and hear NOAA weather radio broadcast through the ODOT HARS system located on both sides of the Cannon Beach Hill. When there is no "Highway Advosory Radio System" information, they broadcast the NOAA report.
