Route

There is no one single ride that takes place on Saturday. Everyone is free to choose a riding area, some people do a solo ride and others form small groups. I had planned to ride in the direction of Medical Springs, north east of Baker City. In talking with a couple other people I decided that a ride over Dooley Mountain on highway 245 would be fun. This is a very twisty road as seen in this map:

Route

After deciding to ride this route Steve (left) and Mike (right, aka "Chad") decided to join in on this ride. Steve is on a Yamaha FJR and Mike on an BMW R80 RT. The ride was fun and while I wanted to get a photo or two showing the twisty road there was no really safe spot to stop for a single bike, let alone three bikes where we would feel safe from any traffic coming up from behind should two cars meet where we were stopped. There is not much traffic on the road but you never know when a car might come along and this road is pretty much one blind corner after another.

When I returned to Baker City I walked into town and had lunch at the Lone Pine Cafe on Main Street. Citrus salad with Ahi tuna followed by home made Key lime pie. Yum.

The Lone Pine Cafe has  a record collection and patrons can put on a record should they so desire. According to one of the staff a small subset of the record collection is usually chosen and the staff hears the same selections too often.

Most of the riders had dinner at a Mexican restaurant on Main Street.
