The weekend after Labor Day there is a standing motorcycle gathering in the Baker City, Oregon area attended by a small group of people in the pacific northwest. The gathering is loosely organized on the pnw moto mailing list. I attended the gathering and then continued on covering 1944 miles in 9 days. I used this as an opportunity to see a few friends and some of the western states. The ride took me through Oregon, Nevada, California, and very briefly Idaho.
I rode a 2017 BMW R1200 RT motorcycle. The bike performed perfectly. Weather varied from temperatures in the high 90s in Nevada to cold enough to use my heated vest at Crater Lake. I also experienced a few brief rain showers at the end of the trip just to remind me that I had returned to Oregon. I used 42 gallons of gas and averaged 45 MPG. Full fuel details of the trip are here. Route map at the bottom of the page.
